There is a reason marble is such a popular choice for kitchens: the luxe stone exudes sophistication and modernity, instantly making a space feel more elevated.

Design experts say that marble is a staple in the kitchen specifically because it provides a mix of visual interest and stabilizing properties that ensure it will never go out of style.

'Natural stones, such as marble, are a popular option for countertops, splashbacks and flooring due to the luxury finish they provide, and this is set to continue well into the new year,' says Elliott Fairlie, product lead at Bushboard. 'The veining present creates movements and direction in the space, in a way that other materials cannot, resulting in a tranquil, clean aesthetic that is perfect for creating harmony in the home.'

However, this material requires acute care in order to preserve it, and as such, should not be implemented in the kitchen without looking into how to clean marble countertops.

'A material known for its high maintenance nature and susceptibility to chips and stains means that some homeowners are reluctant to include it in their space as they’re not ready to deal with the upkeep,' Elliott says. 'There’s also the high price point to contend with, which means it’s not always within budget.'

With that being said, Elliott points out that different varients of marble make it accessible for your space and budget, whether you go for a white option, like Denise, or a darker marble.

'Opting for a marble finish worktop or backsplash, rather than the solid raw material, has its advantages,' he says. 'You can achieve your desired look within budget, while having an easy-to-clean and easy-to-maintain space. The options available span both dark and light marbles, as well as light and deep veining, meaning there’s something to suit any taste.'

If you want to incorporate marble into your kitchen but aren't prepared for a big renovation, try introducing marble accessories, such as trivets, condiment sets, and bowls, which are just as functional as they are decorative. You can also select lighter or darker marble finishes based on your existing design scheme and color palette in your kitchen.
